The Art of Sacred Turning: A Year of Self-Care Through Creativity and Connection

Sacred Wheel

Self-care can mean many things: taking time to rest, nourishing your body with good food, or even setting healthy boundaries. But have you ever considered self-care as aligning with the cycles of nature and expressing your inner world through art?

For centuries, people have looked to the Wheel of the Year—a sacred calendar of seasonal shifts—to ground themselves, find rhythm in their lives, and stay connected to the natural world. These ancient cycles, marked by the solstices, equinoxes, and cross-quarter days, invite us to pause, reflect, and flow with the changing seasons rather than resist them.

Pairing this timeless wisdom with art-making can deepen the practice even further. Art allows us to process emotions, access our inner knowing, and create something tangible from our experiences. When we combine the Wheel of the Year with focused creative practices, we cultivate self-care on multiple levels: emotional, spiritual, and mental. It’s a way of honoring where we are, letting go of what no longer serves us, and setting intentions for what we wish to grow.

Imagine marking the Winter Solstice by creating a mixed-media collage about what you want to release as the year ends. Or welcoming the energy of spring by drawing symbols of renewal and hope. These simple yet intentional practices not only help you connect with the seasons but also provide a safe space to tune into yourself—a vital act of self-care in a noisy, fast-paced world.

The year-long group experience, Sacred Turning: A Creative Journey through Nature’s Cycles, explores the Wheel of the Year, blending creativity, mindfulness, and nature-based practices. Each month includes creative practices, unique reflections, and focused activities designed to align with the energies of the season and connect with your deeper self. Whether you’re an experienced artist or someone who hasn’t picked up a paintbrush since childhood, this space welcomes you to explore, express, and grow.

Sacred Turning begins on 12 January, and I would love for you to be there. This is more than a class; it’s a community of explorers and sisters coming together to honor the sacred, create with intention, and embrace the transformative power of the seasons.

If this resonates with you, you can learn more: Sacred Turning. Let this year be the one where you care for yourself deeply, align with nature, and rediscover your creative spirit. The Wheel is turning—are you ready to step into the circle?
